Since, Dakota's x-rays showed that he does not have a lot of muscle mass, the vet called me and said to get him some exercise and see if we can't build that up a little before his surgery. So, Today I decided to train him to walk on the treadmill. It will be helpful after his surgery too, i think. So, I sat on it and petted him while he sat next to it. Then, i coaxed him up on it and petted him a while. then i put his chain on him and sat on the end with my feet on both sides and started it up at it's slowest pace. Omg talk about funny!! He was not scared of the noise of it or anything, just trying to get all his feet working the right way..I stopped it and started it 3 different times only for a minute..He got the hang of it a few times, but once he even tried to sit down.. lol which obviously he got right back up thank goodness, course i wouldve just stopped it but he recovered nicely. So, that is my goal for the day, to work on that on and off and see if he can figure it out. I will have to have my granddaughter take a picture one of the times, it is just too cute to miss.
Pain wise i took him up to a baseball field and threw the ball and let him run a bit yesterday for exercise, but that only lasts about 5 minutes and then he just gets the ball and lays down and tells me thats enough for now..So he is hurting still but its amazing how dogs handle it. they just give you that look, no whimpering or nothing.. It's hard because you feel so bad and theirs only so many things you can do.
Will be so glad after his surgery, I keep praying that this will be the best for him, and he will be pain free if nothing else..
